Sometimes when you are in a rush flexibility is important, if your pantry is low at the end of the pay period, you may not wish to or have the time to head to the store to get something for dinner. That is the beauty of this dish, most people will have some of the these ingredients on hand, making dinner a painless event. CHOOSE ONE SAUCE MAKER 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup,or cream of chicken soup, undiluted 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cheddar cheese soup, undiluted 2 (14 1/2 oz) can Italian-style diced tomatoes,...

I love the flavor of sun dried tomatoes, but find the price to be a bit much for my wallet, so last year I started making my own, with the hope of getting all the flavor and none of the cost. If you grown your own tomatoes then your cost for these lovely flavor filled gems will be minimal. You do not need any special equipment to make these, they are incredibly simple to make, and more than likely you will find the equipment you need in your own kitchen. Start with firm ripe Roma tomatoes not only do they make the best sun dried tomatoes,...

Yesterday I shared my bread baking tutorial with you, and promised you some variations on the recipe at the end. When I used to bake this bread 8 years ago, I made just about everything from this recipe. Rolls, buns, sandwich rolls, even cinnamon bread and rolls. This recipe is incredibly versatile and can be used for pretty much all of your basic bread needs. I did...

This primer has been on the Internet in one form or another for many years now, it was written by me, back when I used to make 5 loaves of bread, rolls and breadsticks every week. I do not bake this type of bread anymore since most everyone in my family either has Celiac disease or is gluten intolerant, but I thought I would share this for those of you that need a simple recipe to follow. Tomorrow I will post part 2 which is the variations I have used this recipe for over the years, including hamburger buns, rolls, breadstick, hot dog...

A few weeks ago I wrote post about beans being a great super food you can find that post here. I wanted to share a few of the ways my family fixes beans. If you need to know how to prepare your beans first to make your meals even more frugal you can check out this post here. Our family uses beans in place of meat regularly, in fact we rarely ever eat meat, and when we do it is usually a side dish rather than the main course. So of course we substitute beans for the meat, not just because of nutrition, there are plenty of of other foods...

This post is from our Guest blogger Autumn E. Hanson who has a great new blog called  Old Fashioned Families, and is the owner of a great website by the same name   What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you read the words ‘Dinner’ and ‘Menu’? Restaurant? Fast-food? Time consuming? Annoying? On the contrary, my friend! Creating a Dinner Menu, whether it’s weekly, biweekly, or monthly is not only a time SAVER but also a MONEY SAVER!!! It also keeps your relationship with your husband...

So lets face it, most of us do not eat enough of our Veggies, me included. I grew up in a meat and potatoes family, I also grew up in a single parent home. My introduction to vegetables was a few canned beans or a spoonful of of canned corn thrown on my plate as an after thought. Food was quick, easy and satisfying. Little thought was given to nutrition other than being sure we each got a serving of vegetables, fruit, and milk every day. To this day, I struggle with eating enough vegetables, I struggle to increase my portions of vegetables,...

This is third in the series of food reviews, where we will be taking a closer look at Frugal Foods that are also very nutritious. Yesterday I extolled the nutritional value of beans, you can find that article here. Beans are a great food to add to nearly any meal, but using them requires proper planning, particularly if you plan to use dried beans. What kind of beans to buy Beans have a very long shelf life, whether you purchase dried or canned, making them a great pantry food to keep on hand. Deciding on whether to purchase dried or canned...
