A lot of store-bought seasoning blends come with additives such as anti-caking agents, not to mention they tend to be really expensive which is actually super unnecesary. Why not buy your own spices and herbs in bulk, to save money, and then create your own mixtures? Not only is it a healthier alternative, it’ll save you plenty of money in the long run.

These seasoning blends are great for adding flavor to your meat and poultry, but it’s also an addition to veggies, sauces, pastas, or any meals you are planning. You can prepare yourself a seasoning blend for any occasion!

1) Taco Seasoning

  • 4 tbsp chili powder
  • 4 tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt

2) Italian Blend

  • 4 tbsp dried basil
  • 4 tbsp dried oregano
  • 3 tbsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder (You can leave this out if you cook with fresh garlic, but I keep it)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

3) Barbecue Blend

  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2  tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper (optional)

4) Cajun Blend (Caution: I like it hot!)

  • 4 tbsp paprika
  • 4 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp red pepper (optional)

5) Ranch Seasoning

  • 6 tbsp dried parsley
  • 4 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried dill weed
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried chives

**This is great as a seasoning (I use it on fries, yum!) but can also easily be made into ranch dressing! Just add 1/3 cup mayo and 1/3 cup of buttermilk to a tablespoon of your seasoning blend!

6) Seasoned Salt

  • 6 tbsp salt
  • 4 tbsp pepper
  • 3 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder

7) Pumpkin Pie Blend

  • 8 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp cloves

8) Chili Blend

  • 5 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp oregano
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp thyme

All of these recipes should get you about 1 cup of each blend, but you can easily adjust the amounts based on how much seasoning you’d like! Also, feel free to switch up some of the ingredients within the blends to fit your taste— more or less cayenne pepper is an easy way to adjust spice, and if you have a low sodium diet you can make your seasonings sans salt.

I typically just use old spice containers to store my seasonings and label them with a piece of tape, but shakers or mason jars are perfect for storage as well! I try to always have at least 5 blends handy, because it’s a really mindless way to add flavors to any meal and I need one for my every mood 😉 Do you guys have any delicious seasoning blends up your sleeve?
